Hardware Restoration
After rehanging a pair of pocket doors that no longer operated correctly, the client asked if I could make the hardware operational again, and bring back the original luster of the brass hardware. The house had been roughly used and the hardware reflected it (one of the mortise locks had been filled with putty to prevent its being operated).
I opened the locks and repaired the internal mechanisms so that both the deadbolt and the pulls functioned smoothly. All the hardware was then underwent to chemical/mechanical cleaning and polishing before receiving a final light top coat of boiled linseed oil.
