Craftsman Table

This was the first piece of Craftsman furniture I attempted, and was built as a donation piece to Leonardo’s Coffeehouse in Steubenville, Ohio.

The inspiration for the project came when I was given an old pipe organ console lid that would otherwise have ended up in the burn pile. Using scrap quarter sawn white oak, I built this table modeled after the Gustav Stickley No. 66 Trestle Table.

I cut thin strips of veneer from my stock to extend the quarter sawn grain around all four sides of the legs, which are joined to the top via small metal brackets I fabricated for the purpose. The stretcher was made with double wedge tusk tenons to allow for easy knock-down and reassembly in the coffeehouse.
